Kinya ("Kinya," "we," "us," or "our") helps you remember birthdays, weddings, and other occasions, and suggests gifts using AI. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Kinya, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
Kinya uses Sign in with Apple for authentication. Depending on your choice during sign-in, we may receive your name and email address (or Apple's private relay email address). We do not receive or store your Apple password.
Information you provide
To use Kinya, you add information about the people you want to remember: their name, relationship to you, birthday, notes, interests, budget preferences, gift ideas, gift history, and — if you choose — a profile photo.
Imported information
If you choose to import contacts, calendar birthdays, a CSV file, or a vCard file, we access only the specific information needed (name, birthday, and photo where available) to create entries in the app. Kinya's contact picker only receives the specific contacts you select; bulk import requires your explicit permission and only reads birthday-related fields.
Device and usage information
We collect a device identifier and push notification token so we can deliver reminders. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or analytics SDKs that build cross-app profiles of you.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To operate the core features of the app (reminders, occasion tracking, idea drawer, history)
- To generate AI-powered gift suggestions based on the budget, interests, and notes you provide
- To send you push notifications you've configured (occasion reminders)
- To maintain and secure your account, including reconnecting your data if you reinstall the app while signed in with the same Apple ID
- To respond to support requests you send us
3. AI Processing
When you request gift suggestions, Kinya sends the relevant details (budget, interests, occasion type, and any notes you've written) to OpenAI's API to generate suggestions. This data is used solely to generate your suggestions and is subject to OpenAI's own data usage policies for API customers, which do not include using your data to train their models.
4. Affiliate Links & How We Make Money
Kinya is free to use. When we suggest a gift, we link to that product on Amazon and/or PriceRunner. If you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a commission from Amazon Associates or PriceRunner's affiliate program. This is at no additional cost to you — the price you pay is the same whether or not you came from Kinya.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
Clicking a product link may set a cookie or tracking parameter on Amazon's or PriceRunner's own site so they can attribute the referral to us — this is handled entirely by those third parties under their own privacy policies, not by Kinya.
5. Third-Party Services We Use
- Apple — Sign in with Apple (authentication) and push notification delivery
- OpenAI — generates AI gift suggestions from the details you provide
- Amazon Associates and PriceRunner — affiliate product links and images
- Our own backend infrastructure, used to store your account data securely
We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
6. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on servers we control, protected by device-specific authentication tokens issued after you sign in with Apple. We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (see Section 9), we delete your personal data from our active systems, other than what we're required to retain for legal or fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hi@kinya.io. If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. How to Delete Your Account and Data
You can request full deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing hi@kinya.io from the email address associated with your account. We will complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by email.
10. Children's Privacy
Kinya is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Data Transfers
Kinya is operated from Denmark. If you use Kinya from outside Denmark or the European Economic Area, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
